The inspiration for Stand Beside Them began decades before its founding in 2013. Stephanie Richmond, a lawyer, journalist, and life coach, had a deep-rooted appreciation for the military, influenced by her son’s passion for military history and her time working alongside retired Naval Commander Everett Alvarez, Jr., a Vietnam War POW. Years later, after learning about the critical challenges veterans face—unemployment, homelessness, and an alarming suicide rate—Stephanie knew she had found her mission. She gathered a team of experienced coaches, reached out to Commander Alvarez for guidance, and launched SBT to provide free coaching services to veterans in need. What started with just nine coaches has since grown into a nationwide movement with over 200+ coaches in 30 states, all standing beside those who served.
