On Thursday, February 15th, 2018, 9 SBT coaches had the pleasure of coaching vets at the Recruit Military Job Fair, held at the Univ. of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale. (Recruit Military hosts job fairs for veterans around the country and SBT has partnered with them at many similar events nation-wide). Thanks to SBT coaches Eric Ludwig, Jenny Yoder, Clara Mayoral, Janet Foran, Cornelia Long, Lynn Drake, and Jean Pahlke , as well as Linda Burridge (ICF-Phoenix Chapter, VP/Communications) for making this event a tremendous success! Also thanks to Donna Fakiris, long-time SBT supporter, who did a superb job bringing veterans over to our tables for the coaching! As in Fort Knox and DC, it was a non-stop stream of traffic and all the coaches enjoyed helping the veterans work on their career goals.

NYC Dept of Vet Services provided Mental Health First Aid Training to SBT Coaches

L to R: SBT Coaches: Sheila Wall, Randall Chase, Susanne Mueller, Kim Graham, Stephanie Richmond, Sharon Ruwart, Simone Morris, Jennifer Hanawald, and Linda Yost.

We had several of our SBT coaches from the New York and surrounding areas join us for a Mental Health First Aid Training Day hosted by the New York City Department of Veteran Services (DVS). It was great taking the full-day course together and receiving training from excellent instructors, resulting in certifications. Thank you DVS NYC's Cassandra Alvarez, Senior Advisor, and  NY DVS Commissioner (Brig. Gen. Ret.) Loree Sutton,  for this wonderful opportunity to have this helpful course in mental health first aid under our belts!

SBT is certified "Veteran Ready" by PsychArmor

SBT received "Veteran Ready" certification from PsychArmor thanks to many of our coaches who watched their informative videos, such as "Fifteen Things All Veterans Want You to Know", and "Military Culture 101". PsychArmor has an extensive library of short, impactful courses for veteran service providers that can easily be accessed by all SBT coaches, so please continue to check out their library. Also, they are always adding more training that is extremely helpful to us as coaches. There are specific courses set aside for SBT if you register through this link.

Some recent developments in the SBT family...

Pam Campos, Air Force veteran and SBT coachee (whose SBT coach was Jennifer Malach) was recently honored as a Champion of Change by a cohort of women from the UN Women Metro NY Chapter of the UN Women's US National Committee! Congratulations to Pam! She is currently Executive Director of The Common Defense, a grass-roots organization of US veterans and military family members who are fighting to preserve the core values they swore to uphold and defend. Learn more at: www.commondefensepac.org.

Incidentally, SBT, Pam Campos, and Jennifer Malach were mentioned in an article by the NYC Department of Veteran's Services highlighting the NYC Mentor-A-VetInitiative (in which SBT is an active participant) and calling attention to SBT's coaching services - specifically career and life coaching! Navy Veteran Justin Hsu, SBT Volunteer

Navy Veteran Justin Hsu found his coaching with SBT Coach Vivian Ciampi extremely helpful during his transition to the civilian workforce. Justin reports he has landed a job as Senior Vice President, & Corporate Security & Resiliency Program Manager at Citizens Bank in Rhode Island. Congratulations Justin! Justin is extremely knowledgeable and experienced in navigating VA claims, in skills translation/resume writing, interview skills,

and a host of other topics (including networking). Because of his gratitude to SBT and Vivian Ciampi, Justin has offered to volunteer as a Peer Mentor to assist coaches when additional support is needed... with claims navigation, resume review, and generally in instances when a coaching client of ours could benefit from some peer-to-peer connection. SBT coaches, Justin will be a great additional resource, so reach out to us if you'd like to be introduced to Justin for extra-help for one of your coachees!

We're excited  to announce that our past Fall Intern, Jenna Pulvermiller, a graduate of Fordham University, has been promoted to Coaching Coordinator!  Jenna has instituted a new "collaboration tracking" system and it has been going smoothly. "I'm thrilled to be working with SBT and look forward to getting to know all the coaches through my new position"  she said.
