A Partnership That Moves You Forward

What is Coaching?

Coaching is a professional, forward-looking partnership designed to support you holistically — in achieving your goals, deepening self-awareness, and enhancing personal and professional effectiveness.

An Equal Partnership

Coaches and coachees are equal partners. Every coaching relationship may look a bit different — and that's okay.

You (The Coachee)

  • Own the sessions by speaking honestly and putting forward the challenges you want to work on
  • Stay open to new ideas, perspectives, and behaviors
  • Are the expert of your own life
  • Hold the answers to your questions inside yourself
  • Commit to doing the work between sessions

Your Coach

  • Asks powerful questions to surface insights, goals, values, and reframes
  • Listens to understand and serves as a mirror
  • Suggests ways to put learnings into practice
  • Creates space and holds what's shared in confidence
  • Helps identify and address unproductive behaviors
  • Taps into your potential — expanding your capacity to lead, decide, relate, and thrive

What Coaching Is — and Isn’t

Coaches and coachees are equal partners. Every coaching relationship may look a bit different — and that's okay.

Coaching Is

  • A thought-provoking, creative process that inspires growth
  • Focused on the present and future — not the past
  • Centered on empowering you to discover your own path
  • A collaborative, equal partnership between you and your coach
  • Driven by powerful questions, deep listening, and accountability
  • Grounded in the belief that you are creative, resourceful, whole, and capable of finding your own answers

COACHING IS NOT

  • Therapy, mentoring, or consulting
  • About “fixing” you
  • Someone telling you what to do
  • Therapy often focuses on addressing emotional wounds, mental-health conditions, and the past. Coaching helps people to grow, to lead more effectively, to navigate transitions, and to pursue meaningful goals.

Where Coaching Can Take You

Every partnership is different. Together, you and your coach might explore areas like these:

Intentional next steps as you navigate career decisions and change

Awareness of what motivates you — and what doesn’t — in your work

Confidence in articulating your story and professional identity

Greater clarity around your strengths, values, and transferable experiences

Alignment between your skills, interests, and potential career paths

Strategies to transition from a hands-on individual contributor to a visionary, influential leader

How Does Coaching Compare?

Coaching is a fluid process. Your goals may change throughout — and coaches are trained to help you become the "you" you want to be.

ICF Credentialed

Why Credentials Matter

All SBT coaches have ICF (or equivalent) credentials. Because coaching is an unregulated industry, anyone can call themselves a coach — regardless of training, ethics, or experience. Working with an ICF-credentialed coach means partnering with someone who has completed accredited training, upholds high ethical standards and confidentiality, and centers you — not themselves — as the expert in the conversation.

My experience with job coaching was amazing! My coach helped me prepare for interviews, identify my professional goals and values, and create my personal branding to transition to a civilian work environment. She helped me find my confidence and I really feel like I belong in my new position. This program has been so helpful and I am grateful for the opportunity!
